Fragments

“Fragments” is the first solo gallery exhibition by French designer Ferréol Babin, and the first time a comprehensive body of his work is on view to the public. The works are the outcome of IN Residence Design Residency #4, dedicated to the theme of “Enigmatic Refractions”, of which Ferréol Babin is the protagonist, together with Anna Resei.

With “Fragments” Ferréol Babin has completed a complex and ambitious project. The entire body of works refers to the idea of the portion seen as a clue – also in a residual state – capable of providing information about a whole existing on a larger scale. Consciously functional and emotionally poetic, his projects lend themselves to an ambivalent interpretation that puts them into an original typological category, between the archaic artefact and the contemporary product.

The perception of parts of an urban cosmos explored for the first time, along with the acquisition of fractional information and partial impressions, has led the designer to formulate a restitution of the stimuli accumulated during his residency in Turin, starting precisely with the theme of the shard, the scrap, the particle, and creating new enigmas himself, adding a personal layer of information and questions.

In this collection of original objects and furnishings created as one-offs, all made with skilled craftsmanship, the single impressions on the theme meet with a specific modality of formal expression, enacted through the creation of textures with different grain, wrapping geometric solids with basic forms.
