TALISMAN
Contemporary Symbolic Objects
2017 – MILAN (ITALY)
Fuorisalone, Palazzo Clerici
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, IN Residence – a cultural project founded and curated by Barbara Brondi & Marco Rainò, which promotes and feeds the contemporary debate on design – organises the collective exhibition “Talisman – Contemporary Symbolic Objects”. Installed in the splendid setting of Palazzo Clerici, the exposition presents 46 talismans realised for the occasion by as many international designers, the active protagonists in the experience of IN Residence over 10 annual editions.
Invested in the task of spreading good fortune and attracting luck, the talisman – in the form of a small object rendered active through a specific liturgical formula – is a condensation of mythology and folklore, a precious and enigmatic artefact that, over the ages, has interpreted and represented distinct visions of rituality, both secular and magic, both ordinary and extraordinary. Considered as an alter ego of the desires of its creator, the talisman joins its essence to the identity of the person who possesses it, assuming the role of avatar for a precise, alleged power that is cast into the world.
The group exhibition features unique objects made for the occasion by the designers.
